Fowler Landscapes is owned and operated by Richard and Kate Fowler, who have spent the past 10 years building up a close-knit and skilled team, keeping a wide range of clients with happy with their honesty, hard work and good humour.
Richard’s roots are deeply embedded in Canterbury soil, and he has an innate understanding of the region’s land and climate, although he draws his inspiration from gardens and plants from all over the world. Fundamentally practical, yet also highly creative, he has a knack for visualising spaces and the knowhow to make sure everything grows to plan. “There’s no point wasting time and money putting the right things in the wrong place,” he says. “I like to make sure everyone understands from the start where we’re going and how we’re going to get there. That’s not to say there aren’t always a few curve balls, which keep things interesting and make sure we can all think on our feet.”
Kate, meanwhile, grew up in South Africa, and she ensures the business grows as strongly as the plants, deftly managing back office operations, scheduling and marketing. “We like to keep a healthy balance to our workload; plenty of creative jobs to keep the whole team stimulated and fresh, and some more routine-based jobs to meet the ongoing needs of our clients.”
The well-established workforce are all passionate about what they do and each person enriches Fowler Landscapes with their own particular interests and skillset – from Bruce, with his love of drystone walling, to Will and his encyclopaedic plant knowledge, and Richard with… well, Richardness. When you meet him, you’ll understand.
